What weapon(s) do you fence? Sabre
When did you start fencing? A bit before the summer of 2023
Why? I started fencing because of shows and movies I've seen about sword fighting.
When did you start fencing with Miami Fencing Club? A bit before the summer of 2023.
What is your greatest fencing accomplishment? Being able to attend a NAC with having started fencing so little ago.
What is your favorite fencing memory, so far? I don’t think I have a favorite fencing memory because as long as I'm fencing those are my favorite memories. Or maybe I have so many that I can’t pick.
What are your plans for fencing in the future? I want to work hard so I can compete at the Olympics one day.
What weapon(s) do you fence? Sabre and Epee
When did you start fencing? January 2021
Why? Covid had cancelled team sports, so I was taken out of my aspiring water polo career. I thought I would only do fencing for a little bit, but it stayed as a firm in my life.
When did you start fencing with Miami Fencing Club? January 2021
What is your greatest fencing accomplishment? I was recently chosen as Men’s Sabre Team captain for Bangor University.
What is your favourite fencing memory, so far? Finishing second at the 2022 Florida State championships in sabre
What university are you attending? I did my undergraduate degree at Amherst college, then St Andrews in Scotland, and I am currently pursuing a degree at Toulouse university in France, during which time I will also spend a few years at different universities in the UK.
What are you studying? My undergraduate studies were in Philosophy and Latin, and I am now studying Philosophy, Religion, and Law.
How do you think fencing helped you get there? Besides just keeping me sane, sports has definitely helped with both my CV and applications, as well as allowing me to work in the Bangor University Athletics Department.
What are your plans for fencing in the future? Having fenced for so little time, the upper bound of my ability could be anywhere. I plan to keep pushing myself and hopefully reach some heights worthy of recognition.
What weapon do you fence? Saber
When did you start fencing? I started fencing around summer 2021, but only started doing it competitively in November of 2021.
Why? Originally my mom started to fence, first, and around the time she started fencing (summer of 2021), there was a lot of violence aimed toward the Asian community, and I wasn't very comfortable with my mom going alone to fencing practices at night, so I joined her and fell into the sport right away.
When did you start fencing with Miami Fencing Club? Summer of 2021
What is your greatest fencing accomplishment? My greatest fencing accomplishment so far would be getting my B rating. I just happened to be fencing one of my close friends in the final and I won 15-14, which was very dramatic, and I ended up earning my B. The tournament rating was originally an A, but because I fenced an A and knocked him out of the top 8, the rating of the tournament went down.
What is your favourite fencing memory, so far? One of my favorite fencing memories so far occurred at a NAC (North American Championships) when I was coaching one of my students/friends, and he ended up making it to the finals of Cadet and earned his A. It was very cool to coach so far into such a high-level tournament and see one of my students win 15-14.
What university are you attending? I am currently enrolled at Florida State University, but I will be transferring to the University of Texas Arlington.
What are you studying? My current major is General Business Management and Sports Business Industry.
How do you think fencing helped you get there? I would say fencing helped me keep my competitiveness and to stay in shape.
Where do you see yourself in five years? I see myself working for a business firm somewhere in Dallas or working for a sports business company, with fencing continuing to be a main part of my life.
What are your plans for fencing in the future? My fencing plans for the future are to shoot for the Olympics. My current coach was the national South Korean team coach for many years, so I think that if anyone has the tools and blueprints to help me get to the Olympics, it would be him. My short-term goal, currently, is winning a Division 1 event at a North American Championships or winning a Junior event at the Junior Olympics.
